Reading the Bible is a way to access timelessness. The Bible is full of mystery, of beauty even. And it has meant so many different things to so many different people. When I think of the way that some fear the Bible because of the harm it does in the lives of the queer community I am saddened. When I think about how the Bible causes reverential fear in the same community, as well as in others, I am heartened.

I am eager to work on studying the Bible from a Latin American lens because it is the best way for me as an American certificated Spanish teacher, who is also Christian, to be decolonial. The risk, however, and what has given me pause, is the issue of cultural appropriation. So I think to get around that I will hire Spanish speakers who are from Latin America to write for my blog, their own thoughts, about their own ways of doing things.

I think that teaching Spanish in the United States is important, and that it must be done with honor and humility and with a deep reverence for the people who are native speakers of the language.

The pages of the website themselves I will work on in terms of bringing Spanish Bible culture to life. This will be a study project for me, and I will engage in cross-cultural worship as well.

Liberation theology talks about the preferential option for the poor, and it is frequently practiced in Latin America, as well as in other parts of the world, including the United States (amongst progressives, especially progressive churches of color/culture). It is specifically reading the Bible with a liberatory lens that enchants me and that I am looking forward to bringing into contact with English speakers who want to learn how to study the Bible in Spanish.
